Sept. 11 drill NO GO; other thoughts
September 10, 2008 3:50 pm UncategorizedDear MARC Members,
As of this evening (Tues.), as far as we know, the Thursday Drill is a NO
GO. We will keep everyone posted if we learn of a new date. Thank You to
all those who volunteered to help.
Also A BIG Thank You to everyone who helped during Fay & Gustav.
Gerald Jones, KD4DLJ
If you are interested in helping ARES with future emergency communications,
contact Gerald. He would also appreciate more ARES net controls.
If you would like to work at the NWS office during Skywarn activation, or
help with a Skywarn net from your home, contact Gary McDuffie, KC4MIX.
If you want to develop emergency net control skills, a great way to practice
is to act as net control of the W4IAX Wed. night net; any member may apply
to the Board if interested, and a script will be sent to you. Also, all
members who are available on Wed. nights, please check in to the net.
Don’t forget that JOTA is in October; a flyer with contact info was sent in
the Flutter. Volunteers are needed.
Our frequencies are very much in demand by government and big business: we
retain privileges on them because we are recognized as providing a valuable
service in times of emergency. As practitioners of an important skill, we
should give back to our community by providing public service when needed.
Opportunities to volunteer are provided through the club, ARES, and other
disaster response organizations and community agencies. Please give of your
time and talent in some way.
The Board of the Mobile Amateur Radio Club is always willing to listen to
suggestions and constructive criticism. If you wish to help improve our
club, if you have ideas for public awareness, service or fun activities,
meeting programs, etc. contact a Board member. Attend meetings. Read the
Flutter (if you do not know what is going on in the club, you are not
reading the minutes!). Participate. Respond when asked for help.
Encourage other local hams to join the club. Stand for election to the
Board in Dec. Just remember, if you have an idea or suggestion, you should
be willing to give your time and energy to make it happen. MARC can make a
difference in our community only if we have an active membership. Many
thanks to those members who are active and trying to make a difference.
